Cohesity partners with AWS for European sovereign cloud launch

Wed, 3rd Dec 2025

Cohesity has been selected as a launch partner for the forthcoming AWS European Sovereign Cloud, offering data security and cyber-resilience solutions tailored to the demands of European customers. The collaboration aims to address the region's complex regulatory landscape by supporting stricter requirements around data residency and operational independence.

Sovereignty priorities

The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is designed to provide a dedicated environment for European customers seeking to comply with evolving data sovereignty rules. It is expected to allow organisations to keep sensitive information within specific geographic borders and ensure compliance with local regulation.

Cohesity's involvement centres on its data protection and security suite, available to enterprises and public sector organisations using the new AWS environment. The company states its software supports secure backups and management of data held in sovereign clouds with features such as immutability, multi-role access control, and air-gapped protection.

"Cohesity is the world's market leader in data security software, trusted by governments and enterprises globally. Our customers are telling us that digital sovereignty is now a top-tier board-level topic. In becoming a launch partner for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, we're bringing trusted, AI-powered data security to organisations that must safeguard critical information under evolving European regulations while increasing data cyber resilience. Together, Cohesity and AWS give customers the confidence to manage, secure, and innovate with data - wherever sovereignty matters," said Olivier Savornin, Group Vice President, Europe, Cohesity.

Cloud demand

Market demand for sovereign cloud services continues to increase across Europe as businesses and governments seek greater autonomy over their data. A recent Gartner report estimates that the sovereign cloud IaaS sector, valued at USD $37 billion, is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 36% through 2028, reaching USD $169 billion. This is being driven by higher regulatory demand for data sovereignty and a push for technological independence.

Data privacy, operational control, and compliance risk management are pressing concerns as organisations respond to stricter local and regional legislation. These pressures are propelling demand for IT solutions that keep data within national or regional borders, with clear auditability and robust cyber-security features.

Technical measures

Cohesity's offering for the AWS platform emphasises protection mechanisms pivotal in the context of sovereign clouds. Its solution enables air-gapped backups, requiring multi-role authentication for access, and incorporates immutable storage technologies. Clients can implement quorum-based approvals for administrative actions, which is increasingly expected as part of compliance with governance standards.

Such features are positioned to help public sector agencies and regulated industries in sectors such as finance, healthcare, and government meet their statutory obligations while maintaining readiness against cyber threats.

Industry collaboration

Cohesity's relationship with AWS builds on its work providing cyber-resilience for cloud-based workloads. By aligning with the new European Sovereign Cloud, Cohesity is aiming to assist customers in managing and controlling critical data assets amid an environment of heightened scrutiny.

Industry analysts predict that partnerships between established cloud providers and data security vendors will increase as more European customers look for solutions that assure compliance and operational sovereignty.

"Our customers are telling us that digital sovereignty is now a top-tier board-level topic," said Savornin.
