Aurora Networks and Kaltura have deployed a Cloud TV platform for Bouygues Telecom. The system is now live across Bouygues Telecom's TV services in France.

Bouygues Telecom is using Kaltura's Cloud TV platform to replace legacy IPTV infrastructure and move its video operations onto a single platform. Aurora Networks served as lead systems integrator, handling consulting, design, project management, integration, and custom software development.

The deployment spans set-top boxes, mobile devices, and smart TVs. The platform supports both IPTV and over-the-top streaming services for Bouygues Telecom's customer base of 5.5 million fixed-network customers and 27.4 million mobile customers.

The project consolidates video backend functions previously spread across older systems. The shift reflects a broader move among telecom operators to simplify video delivery architecture as viewing habits continue to spread across multiple screens and networks.

Aurora Networks is part of Vistance Networks, while Kaltura supplies video and television software to telecom and media operators. The Bouygues Telecom project extends a long-running relationship between Aurora Networks and the French operator that spans 18 years.

Modernisation project

The rollout is central to Bouygues Telecom's effort to update the technical foundations of its television offering. Instead of running separate backend functions across legacy systems, the operator is moving to a unified structure designed to support service delivery across multiple devices from a single core platform.

For telecom groups, such changes can reduce the operational burden of maintaining older video stacks and make it easier to introduce the same features across fixed and mobile viewing environments. In this case, Bouygues Telecom is combining IPTV and OTT delivery within the same programme.

Isabelle Jallat, Head of Platform Services at Bouygues Telecom, highlighted the integration work and the long-standing supplier relationship.

"This new Cloud TV integration project continues our close relationship with Aurora Networks' Video Professional Services team," said Isabelle Jallat, Head of Platform Services at Bouygues Telecom.

"Thanks to our successful collaborations with Aurora Networks, we were confident that its team of experts would help integrate Kaltura, our new Cloud TV platform, into our remaining video delivery platforms seamlessly, while also ensuring any new product functionality is launched quickly," Jallat added.

Roles defined

Under the arrangement, Kaltura provides the Cloud TV software platform, while Aurora Networks has taken the lead integration role between the technology and Bouygues Telecom's existing systems. That reflects the growing importance of systems integrators in telecom video projects, particularly when operators replace long-established platforms without disrupting services for large subscriber bases.

Aurora Networks said its work on the Bouygues Telecom deployment included implementation planning and bespoke software development. Such customisation is often required when newer cloud-based platforms must operate alongside remaining legacy environments during a transition period.

Chris Brown, Vice President of Global Video Systems at Aurora Networks, said the company's relationship with both Bouygues Telecom and Kaltura helped shape the project.

"Aurora Networks has worked with Bouygues Telecom and Kaltura for many years, and we're thrilled to continue our collaboration as we work together to deploy the new IP video platform," said Chris Brown, Vice President of Global Video Systems at Aurora Networks.

"Aurora Networks uses its unique knowledge and decades of video expertise to create solutions optimised for customers' needs, with a single point of ownership from design to implementation," Brown added.

Wider market

The deployment also underlines the continued role of managed television platforms in European telecom markets, even as streaming competition intensifies and viewers increasingly expect standard access across mobile devices and connected televisions. Operators have been under pressure to update older IPTV systems built for a more limited device environment.

Kaltura said the Bouygues Telecom programme is part of the operator's broader TV transformation. The company has worked with telecom providers on cloud-based television systems designed to unify content delivery and service management.

Natan Israeli, Chief Customer and Commercial Officer at Kaltura, described the project as a joint effort with Aurora Networks.

"Kaltura is proud to partner with Aurora Networks to serve Bouygues Telecom's TV transformation," said Natan Israeli, Chief Customer and Commercial Officer at Kaltura.

"Through Aurora Networks' professional services capabilities and Kaltura's Cloud TV product, we were able to provide synergies that support the execution of Bouygues Telecom's business strategy, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Aurora Networks on similar projects around the globe in the near future," Israeli added.
