CalAmp launches Google Pub/Sub integration for fleet data

CalAmp has launched a Google Pub/Sub integration for its Telematics Cloud, now generally available to DataHub customers.
The addition brings Google Cloud to the company's existing delivery options, which include AWS, Microsoft Azure and Apache Kafka-based environments.
The integration provides customers with a direct data pipeline from CalAmp's telematics platform into Google Cloud. It is aimed at transportation and logistics operators that want vehicle and asset data to flow continuously rather than through batch processing.
Fleet management businesses are under pressure to improve service levels while controlling costs. In that environment, delays in moving operational data into analytics systems can slow route changes, incident response and broader planning.
The new setup is intended to reduce those delays and lessen the need for custom-built data pipelines. Customers can stream enriched telematics data into Google Cloud in real time for use in dashboards, analytics systems, and AI or machine learning applications.
CalAmp said the integration is designed for large fleet operations where timing and reliability are central to day-to-day decisions. Continuous streaming can support route adjustments, responses to disruptions and live visibility across vehicles and other mobile assets.
Paul Washicko, General Manager of Telematics Solutions at CalAmp, said the product was shaped by customer demand.
“This capability was driven by our transportation customers,” said Paul Washicko, General Manager of Telematics Solutions, CalAmp.
He added that some Google Cloud users want faster access to operational information as they build analytics and AI systems.
“Organisations building analytics and AI platforms on Google Cloud need immediate access to operational data. This integration enables faster response time, improves route execution, and supports decision-making while events are still unfolding,” said Washicko.
Cloud Options
The launch expands CalAmp's cloud integrations at a time when telematics providers are under growing pressure to fit into customers' existing technology estates rather than require separate infrastructure. For fleet operators with established cloud preferences, support for multiple environments can influence procurement and deployment decisions.
The Google Pub/Sub connection combines CalAmp's telematics data processing with Google's messaging service to support high-volume data delivery. It is available to all customers using CalAmp Telematics Cloud DataHub.
Ali Ghulamali, Vice President of Engineering at CalAmp, outlined the company's view of the link's technical role.
“By combining CalAmp's advanced telematics data processing with Google Pub/Sub's resilient messaging infrastructure, we deliver a scalable streaming service designed to support reliable high-volume data delivery,” said Ghulamali.
CalAmp is the parent company of Tracker Network UK, the stolen vehicle recovery and telematics business. Tracker says it has fitted more than a million security and telematics systems to vehicles including passenger cars, motorcycles, heavy goods vehicles, light commercial vehicles, and plant and construction equipment.
The UK business has operated in stolen vehicle recovery since 1993. According to the company, it has recovered more than GBP £667 million worth of stolen vehicles with police support and continues to recover an average of GBP £3 million each month.
