ClearFibre completes first phase of Cardiff fibre broadband rollout
ClearFibre has announced the successful completion of the first phase of its project to deliver hyperfast full fibre broadband internet to Cardiff. This rollout will provide homes and businesses across the city with access to broadband speeds of up to 1Gbps.
The upgraded broadband will enable Cardiff residents to enjoy uninterrupted streaming of television and movies, seamless multiplayer online gaming, and clear video calls. These benefits are particularly pertinent given that over 40% of Britons work from home, either full or part-time. The high-quality internet will allow users to join virtual meetings and transfer large files without delays or interruptions.
ClearFibre emphasises that fast internet is a necessity rather than a luxury. To this end, the company offers competitive pricing and a social tariff to support local residents in need with discounted rates.
The initial phase of the project has been met with positive feedback, and construction on the second phase, which aims to extend coverage to more residences and businesses, is already underway. Customers can determine their coverage status by visiting the ClearFibre website and entering their postcode. The company is also making it easier for residents and businesses with less than nine months left on their current contract to switch by offering free access to ClearFibre until the end of their existing agreements. Connectivity plans are available at speeds of 250Mbps, 500Mbps, and 1Gbps.
ClearFibre recognises the crucial role that reliable internet plays in business operations, from cloud-based applications and video conferencing to card payments. Chris Baldock, Executive Chairman at ClearFibre, expressed pride in the company's involvement in this city-wide project, which is delivered by Cardiff Council and funded by the Welsh Government. The initiative aims to improve broadband services in areas of Cardiff that have traditionally experienced poor connectivity.
"By bringing fast, reliable connections to parts of Cardiff that have historically suffered from slow, unstable internet, we're helping bridge the gap between those being well served and those being left behind," said Baldock. He further noted that access to hyperfast internet is a fundamental human right and that this project will attract new businesses and residents to Cardiff, boosting the local economy.
ClearFibre's mission is to 'connect for good,' which means enhancing broadband quality across the UK and fostering community growth through reliable and future-proofed connectivity. As part of this mission, the company is providing five free Community Connections to community centres throughout Cardiff. These centres, including Pentrebane Community Centre, Trelai Community Pavilion, Pontprennau Community Church, Old St. Mellons Community Council, and The Beacon Centre, will receive upgrades to full fibre network connectivity to ensure they can support community needs for years to come.
Baldock concluded, "We are honoured to have been selected by Cardiff Council to complete both stages of this hyperfast broadband network buildout. By bringing 1Gbps internet to homes and businesses previously on the wrong side of the digital divide, we look forward to helping Cardiff and its communities prosper and grow."
