Core-Backbone doubles Germany network capacity with Infinera
Core-Backbone has announced an upgrade and extension of its key network routes in Germany, utilising Infinera's GX Series ICE6 800G coherent solution. The enhancements cover network segments between Nuremberg and Munich, Nuremberg and Prague, and Hamburg and Düsseldorf. The deployment of this technology has effectively doubled the network capacity on each of these routes while also cutting down power consumption per bit.
Core-Backbone is a Germany-based global network provider with operations extending to Europe, Asia, and North America. The recent upgrade, which incorporates Infinera's GX Series, enables Core-Backbone to deliver up to 800G per wavelength, with a future potential to upgrade to 1.2T. This significant increase in capacity is achieved at a reduced cost and with better energy efficiency.
Ulrich Koehler, Head of Network and IT-Operation at Core-Backbone, expressed enthusiasm about the upgrade. "We are excited to upgrade our network with Infinera's innovative solutions and expand our service offerings. Infinera's leading GX solution, similar to Infinera's XTM platform currently in our network, was easy to install and deploy, eliminating lengthy set up times and avoiding any interruptions in service," he said. Koehler also emphasised that the backbone network would now be better equipped to handle growing customer demands. "With Infinera's GX Series solution, our backbone network will be able to serve the growing needs of our customers with performance improvements and support 400G to 800G+ capacity for individual wavelengths to meet the growing demands for high-speed transmission today and in the future," he added.
Nick Walden, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales at Infinera, highlighted the significance of the partnership. "We are pleased to support Core-Backbone's network upgrade and expansion plans, which support critical telecommunications, data centers, and financial services across the globe," Walden noted. He also pointed out the benefits of Infinera's technological solutions. "Infinera's GX Series coupled with the XTM Series will enable Core-Backbone to provide its customers with cost-effective, high-capacity, and highly available services," he added.
