HONOR Magic V5 foldable reads 4,300 pages on one battery charge
HONOR has confirmed that its Magic V5 foldable smartphone has been used to read the entire 'In Search of Lost Time' by Marcel Proust on a single battery charge.
The company organised what it described as "The Unbroken Read" challenge, tasking professional speed reader Jordan Harry to read Proust's multi-volume novel, often cited as the world's longest, from start to finish using only the battery of the new device.
The challenge lasted 30.5 hours, during which Harry read 4,300 pages, equating to approximately 1.2 million words and 7 million characters. At the conclusion of the challenge, the Magic V5's battery still held a 10% charge, highlighting the longevity of its 5,820mAh silicon-carbon battery.
The battery test
The challenge was devised as a demonstration of battery endurance. Bond Zhang, Chief Executive Officer of HONOR UK & Ireland, said: "We set out to prove that battery anxiety doesn't have to be part of the smartphone experience. The results speak for themselves. A single charge that outlasted what would have required multiple recharges on other foldables. What the HONOR Magic V5 offers is freedom from interruption, allowing users to fully immerse themselves in any activity without a second thought about battery life. Be it through reading the world's longest novel, running a marathon or someone simply watching their favourite TV series in one go."
Speed reader Jordan Harry, who is also Director at StudyFast, undertook the continuous reading session, documented in full by HONOR. He said: "When HONOR approached me with the 'Unbroken Read' challenge, I knew this was about more than reading, it was a test of human, and technological endurance. Reading 4,300 pages in under 40 hours, on a single charge, is an incredible achievement that I'm extremely proud of. The Magic V5's outstanding battery life, lightweight design and stunning screen not only helped to make this possible, but also enjoyable, allowing me to stay fully immersed in the text without having to worry about power."
Device specifications
The Magic V5 features a 7.95-inch foldable display when open, providing an expansive reading or viewing area, and a 6.43-inch outer screen. The device weighs 217g and has a thickness of 4.1mm when unfolded, making it slimmer than many smartphones currently available.
Other features highlighted include shock-absorbing structure for durability and a lightweight build, designed for extended use.

According to HONOR, the Magic V5 is available in Dawn Gold, Ivory White and Black colour variants.
