M2M Data Connect unveils AI travel eSIM via messaging

Tue, 24th Feb 2026

M2M Data Connect has launched an AI-driven travel eSIM product that lets travellers buy, download, and activate mobile connectivity in under a minute through social and messaging platforms, without downloading an app or creating an account.

The UK company plans to demonstrate the product at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It is positioning the service as a faster alternative to conventional travel SIM onboarding, which often requires dedicated apps and multi-step registration.

The product uses automated purchase and activation flows inside channels many travellers already use, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger. It also supports voice AI interfaces and other major social platforms.

App-free purchase

Instead of sending customers to a website or mobile app, the service turns messaging threads into a checkout and activation path. Users can complete the process without creating an account, and the entire sequence takes less than a minute, according to the company.

eSIM technology allows a compatible phone to provision a mobile plan digitally, removing the need for a physical SIM card. Travel eSIM providers have expanded rapidly in recent years as more smartphones ship with eSIM support and travellers look for short-term data packages across multiple countries.

M2M Data Connect is pitching the system as a layer that can sit alongside existing travel, telecoms, or mobility applications. Partners can integrate the travel eSIM infrastructure into their current app or digital environment, adding connectivity without major changes to existing systems, the company said.

It also described the product as a commercial add-on for partners that already have customer relationships through messaging channels, turning customer communications into points of sale to create new revenue streams.

Partner model

M2M Data Connect said it has already seen demand for app-free flows through TaxiBot, one of its existing channels. It described this as evidence of a preference for fewer steps during onboarding and purchase. The company did not provide user numbers, transaction volumes, or details of the commercial model.

Beyond travel connectivity, M2M Data Connect said it operates automation platforms across transportation, parking, EV charging, and holiday rentals, calling the travel eSIM the latest product in that portfolio. It also linked the launch to the firm's 10-year anniversary.

The travel eSIM market has become increasingly crowded, with telecoms operators, digital travel brands, and specialist eSIM providers competing on price, coverage, and ease of activation. Many services still rely on app-based onboarding and account management. Messaging-based commerce has gained traction in other sectors, particularly in markets where chat platforms function as primary digital storefronts.

M2M Data Connect is betting that similar behaviour will extend to travel connectivity, and is also leaning on voice-based interfaces as consumers increasingly use assistants and automated agents. The company did not specify which voice AI products it supports, or how it handles identity, fraud prevention, or customer support across different channels.

Richard Clayton, CEO and founder of M2M Data Connect, said the focus is on reducing steps in the purchase journey.

"Our mission is simplicity. By removing steps and complexity from the system, the AI Travel eSIM is able to elevate the customer journey and prove that digital onboarding doesn't have to be slow, complicated, or gated behind an app," said Richard Clayton, CEO and founder of M2M Data Connect.

Clayton said the company has observed increasing demand for integrated, app-free interactions across its products.

"We have seen the appetite for app-free, more integrated systems across our portfolio, and think that in a world where people travel across the globe more frequently than ever before, that the AI Travel eSIM process should be as smooth and as painless as possible," he said.

M2M Data Connect said it will use meetings and demonstrations in Barcelona to discuss partnerships for the travel eSIM product and its multi-channel distribution approach.
