Shaping the future: Women leading the AI revolution on International Women's Day
On International Women's Day, I'm always gratefully reminded of the strong progress women have made across many industries, and especially in the tech industry. I am also always saddened by the gender imbalances that still prevail, and by how many women globally just don't have the opportunity to have a voice in this AI revolution.
We are in the foothills of a massive AI revolution, a transformation that has been predicted to be more impactful than the mobile and internet revolutions combined. AI is already becoming deeply embedded across many realms of society, and as we move towards ever more powerful Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), it is an absolute imperative that these technologies serve and uplift humanity, and our very best hope of that is for it to be built and governed by the widest possible range of perspectives and experiences, including the beautiful and brilliant women who care for their families and friends and for society at large across the world.
When I look at the landscape of AI today, I see extraordinary women who are not only innovators in fields from blockchain to biotech, from AI governance to decentralized intelligence but also architects of a future that uplifts everyone. Women who are challenging the status quo—leading projects, innovating with purpose, and shining a light so bright it illuminates the way for others.
On this International Women's Day, my message to aspiring women in tech is that they should step forward with confidence and grasp this once in a species opportunity for a dramatic shift in the power structure of the world. The perception that tech is only for male developers or engineers is very outdated. Some of the incredible winners of our recent competition to award the best AI minds in the world were women.
The tech world can sometimes feel intimidating, but you don't need a PhD in maths to use AI to develop your skills and talents and progress your career and impact in the world.
To the women considering a career in technology: dive in - AI needs you. Take that first step and let's build the future together—one in which AI doesn't serve narrow interests, but rather, serves all of humanity and all sentient beings.
