Telehouse celebrates 35 years of global DC services & innovation

Telehouse, a global colocation provider and brand of KDDI, marks its 35th anniversary, celebrating a significant presence in the data centre services industry. Initially launched with a data centre in New York, USA, in 1989, Telehouse has expanded to a network of over 45 data centres across more than ten countries, including new locations in Thailand and Canada.

The company attributes its growth to a customer-focused approach, emphasising connectivity, sustainability, and infrastructure advancements. This strategy has helped Telehouse support over 3,000 enterprise customers, offering services to key global internet exchanges and cloud providers. Kenkichi Honda of Telehouse stated, "Telehouse has been at the forefront of data centre evolution over the last 35 years. Telehouse's ecosystem includes over 1,000 connectivity partners, featuring leading global internet exchanges and tier-1 carriers, as well as major mobile, content delivery, and cloud providers. Their data centres are home to several significant internet exchanges worldwide, such as the NYIIX Peering Exchange and the exchange switching point for the Toronto Internet Exchange (TorIX) in North America.

In Europe, notable exchanges such as the London Internet Exchange (LINX) and the France Internet Exchange (France-IX) are located in Telehouse's London Docklands and Paris data centres respectively. In Asia, the Hong Kong Internet Exchange (HKIX) and Japan Internet Exchange (JPIX) are situated in Telehouse's Hong Kong and Japanese facilities.

The evolution of Telehouse mirrored the development of the internet and widespread adoption of cloud services. Through the 1990s and 2000s, Telehouse expanded its network across key markets in the Americas, Asia, and Europe. The company now plays a pivotal role in supporting advancements in AI, machine learning, autonomous vehicles, smart manufacturing, and smart cities.
