Zoom unveils AI Companion 2.0 & tools to boost productivity

Today

Zoom has introduced a range of AI-powered tools at its Zoomtopia 2024 event aimed at enhancing productivity in workplaces across various industries.

Among the announcements is the Zoom AI Companion 2.0, designed to provide users with contextual insights by pulling information from both Zoom Workplace and external applications like Microsoft and Google. This tool aims to assist users in staying on top of their tasks.

Eric S. Yuan, Founder and CEO of Zoom, said, "At Zoom, we're not just reimagining communication—we're revolutionising the entire work experience. Our vision is to create an AI-first work platform for human connection that empowers teams to achieve more than ever. With AI Companion already enhancing productivity, we are helping our customers transform the way they work. This is more than an evolution; it's a complete overhaul of how we get things done in the digital age."

The new AI Companion 2.0 offers capabilities such as persistent side panel availability throughout Zoom Workplace, providing seamless integration for users, and advanced contextual understanding based on prior conversations and current activity. It can synthesize interactions from various platforms, including Microsoft Outlook, Gmail, and Google Calendar, to deliver summarised content and interactions.

Further, Zoom has introduced a Custom AI Add-on, allowing users to personalise their AI Companion experience. This add-on expands access to additional data sources beyond Microsoft and Google services and includes customization features like company glossaries. It will be available for USD $12 per user per month from the first half of 2025.

Another AI-powered tool introduced is Zoom Tasks, which is designed to detect, recommend, and complete tasks by analysing user activity within Zoom Workplace. This tool is intended to elevate task management efficiency.

Zoom Workplace has also been enhanced with new features, such as AI-first meeting agendas and real-time summaries. These features aim to ensure effective coverage of topics during meetings and streamline writing and content creation processes.

Additionally, Zoom announced AI Companion for in-person meetings, which provides meeting summaries and action items accessible through the Zoom Workplace app. For in-office coordination, Workspace Reservation recommends optimal office days and meeting spaces for teams.

To cater to specific industry needs, Zoom is launching tailored solutions within sectors such as healthcare, frontline work, and education. For instance, healthcare professionals will benefit from AI Companion 2.0 and custom add-ons that incorporate healthcare dictionaries and electronic healthcare record access.

In education, the platform provides enhancements like lesson planning, lecture summaries, and personalised feedback, alongside capabilities for students such as AI-generated live notes.

Enhancements have also been made to Zoom Business Services, including the introduction of multi-intent detection in the Zoom Virtual Agent, which can now handle complex customer interactions more efficiently. Additionally, Auto Quality Management offers greater insights into agent performance by automatically scoring customer interactions.

These advancements reflect Zoom's strategy to integrate AI into its suite of services further, aiming to optimise communication and collaboration in professional settings.
