Infinera's updated GX platform promises major network enhancements
Wed, 13th Mar 2024

Infinera has recently declared the commercial availability of its next-generation multi-haul optical line system (OLS) functionality on its GX Series platform. Hailed as the industry's most adaptable optical transport solution, the enhanced GX platform will cater to the needs of both web-scale operators and communication service providers (CSPs). The updated version will provide the most competitive solution in terms of cost and power per bit and amplify network operators' manoeuvrability.

The GX OLS solution, based on an efficient and innovative architectural setup, will present a comprehensive set of multi-haul OLS functions. This includes the provision of carrier-grade features and support for Super C- and Super-L bands, which promise an impressive increase of 35% in capacity per fibre.

In a significant development, Infinera has secured preliminary design wins for its GX OLS solution from leading web-scale operator customers and CSPs and has noticed considerable interest from its global customer base.

Ron Johnson, SVP and General Manager of Optical Subsystems and Global Engineering at Infinera, commented on the development. "The release of our next-generation GX OLS capabilities represents the completion of our multi-year journey to converge our edge-to-core networking capabilities onto a single platform," explained Johnson. "The GX was designed with the intent to provide network operators with a single platform that can support virtually any application in their network, enable pay-as-you-grow economics, and seamlessly support multi-generational embedded and pluggable optics."

As part of its launch strategy, Infinera will include the next-generation GX OLS solution with its portfolio of live product demonstrations at the upcoming OFC 2024. The global platform for driving forward the future of optics, the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition, should provide an excellent launchpad for the ambitious product. It offers the company a chance to showcase its latest offering to the global audience; the event is scheduled for March 26-28 in San Diego, California.

Infinera is known worldwide as a supplier of progressive open optical networking solutions as well as advanced optical semiconductors. These products enable an assortment of carriers, cloud operators, governments, and enterprises to escalate network bandwidth, speed up service innovation, and automate network operations. The next-generation multi-haul OLS functionality on the GX Series platform will undoubtedly add to their reputation and confirm their standing as leaders in delivering industry-leading economics and performance in long-haul, submarine, data centre interconnect, and metro transport applications.
