Lightware introduces new USB-C extender Active Optical Cables
Mon, 16th Oct 2023

Lightware Visual Engineering, a leading provider of connectivity solutions in the professional integrated systems market, has announced the arrival of two new USB-C extender Active Optical Cables with lengths of 8 and 10 metres. Known as the CAB-USBC-AOC800K and the CAB-USBC-AOC1000K, these extenders promise to inject unprecedented flexibility into AV installations.

These cutting-edge cables are attuned to all major operating systems and endorse USB 3 Gen2 10Gbps SuperSpeed. This makes them ideally suited for high-speed data transfer scenarios such as 4K webcam usage and data transfer to and from SSD storage. Fitted with a Screw Lock USB-C plug, they offer a firm connection to Lightware’s market-leading Taurus UCX universal matrix switcher, averting accidental disconnections during operation. Each cable also features a 2-lane DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode that supports high-resolution video output up to 4K30Hz@HBR2. This enables users to experience vivid, detailed visuals in high resolution. Fast charging of devices such as laptops, tablets, and phones is facilitated by a minimum 60W / 3A charging capacity. The cables are further outfitted with an eMarker chip that logs data speed and the highest amperage.

Tams Kodori, Product Manager at Lightware Visual Engineering, comments, “These cables embody state-of-the-art technology, providing users with the dependability, build quality and technical specifics that position this accessory as our top selection for projects involving USB-C connectivity.”

In addition to offering these cutting-edge features, Lightware's USB-C cables, spanning 1 to 5 metres, meet all five of the criteria set by the company to ensure superior connectivity. These comprise USB 2.0 enumeration, USB 3.x enumeration, power delivery, DisplayPort Alt mode, and Ethernet support.

Kodori advises customers seeking quality USBC cables to look out for a few key features, “Firstly, it's crucial to ensure the cables are certified, which indicates that they adhere to the apex standards for performance and safety. Secondly, versatility is essential; the cables should be suitable for various applications, from charging to delivering video and audio signals. Lastly, quality is paramount. Our cables are constructed with superior quality materials and feature precision-engineered connectors that assure a stable and secure connection, precisely what the industry requires as it progressively resorts to USB-C to expand the capabilities of AV installs."
