St Michaels development in Manchester to receive 10Gbps business internet
Mon, 29th Jan 2024

The £400 million St Michaels development in Manchester's city centre is set to be equipped with full fibre dedicated business internet of up to 10Gbps by Telcom. A foremost provider of dedicated corporate connectivity, Telcom will deliver its high-grade connected building solution, Preconnect, ensuring commercial office tenants have access to a swift and reliable internet within 24 hours of installation.

St Michaels, a mixed-use development promising nine floors of top-tier office space, a grand hotel, 217 luxury apartments, and a chic public square, is a long-term venture by former footballer Gary Neville's development firm, Relentless Developments. Praised as "a defining regeneration project for our city centre" by Councillor Bev Craig, the leader of Manchester Council, the project is set to redefine the cityscape.

No. 1 St Michaels, the initial phase of the development, priced at £150 million, is set to be completed in 2024. The project is anticipated to be Manchester's premier fully net-zero carbon commercial development in operation and delivery. The subsequent phase, No. 2 St Michaels, is a £250 million 41-storey tower, slated to host a 162-bed W Hotel, premium residences, and 75,000 sq ft of office space, with an expected completion date in 2027.

Telcom's partnership with property consultants Zerum aims to equip No. 1 St Michaels with Preconnect, guaranteeing tenants quick access to full-fibre dedicated business internet. The implementation extends to the rooftop restaurant that will house the exotic Japanese-Peruvian brand, Chotto Matte, ensuring the building's integral venues stay smoothly connected. Providing dedicated internet connectivity with symmetrical speeds of up to 10Gbps, Preconnect is projected to attract a minimum connectivity rating of Gold and target a Platinum Wiredscore for St Michaels.

Steven Calder, Head of Connected Buildings at Telcom, stated their pride in being a part of the St Michaels project: "Preconnect, our market-leading commercial property solution, will give tenants an unparalleled connection experience by getting them connected to 10Gbps full fibre internet in as little as 24 hours." Calder also underscored the zero-cost installation and management of the service for the building owner or management company, looking forward to working closely with Relentless Development and the future tenants of St Michaels.

Anthony Kilbride, Co-Director of Relentless Developments, described St Michaels as a massive development poised to metamorphose a critical yet underused area of Manchester into a premier destination for work, stay, and play. He emphasised the value of Telcom’s partnership: "Delivering hyperfast, reliable, and convenient connectivity for our commercial tenants is going to play a big part in making St Michaels one of the most sustainable and smart spaces in the UK."
