Trimble updates CoPilot for improved fleet navigation & safety

Today

Trimble has announced an update to its in-cab commercial vehicle navigation solution, CoPilot, which includes a refreshed user interface and enhanced trip planning functionalities. The primary objective of this update is to increase fleet efficiency by ensuring safer and more predictable journeys for drivers.

The latest version of CoPilot integrates Trimble's proprietary commercial mapping data, which encompasses location intelligence from over five million commercial vehicle-specific locations. This enhanced navigation solution combines a modern and intuitive driver experience with the Trimble PC*Miler routing algorithm and a robust commercial vehicle location database.

This update introduces several new functionalities, including improved display options. Drivers can now choose between landscape and portrait modes, facilitating a more flexible experience while using tablets. This adjustment allows drivers to customise their view of the road, thereby enhancing overall usability.

Additionally, the updated CoPilot system ensures that crucial trip details, maps, and route information are always visible. This feature aims to improve safety by reducing the need for drivers to interact with or switch between multiple screens. The emphasis on 'information at a glance' helps to minimise distractions and keep drivers focused on the road.

Another key enhancement is the map-first application, which now features a high-resolution map display. This update provides drivers with additional visual cues and offers various display options, including satellite imagery and 3D buildings, for a more comprehensive navigation experience.

Enhanced trip planning is also a significant part of the new CoPilot version. The system now offers transformative trip management by recommending break locations based on real-time data, such as facility operation hours and HOS compliance. This includes other applicable amenities, helping drivers plan their journeys more efficiently and adhere to regulations.

The new version also brings compatibility with the Android Auto infotainment system, facilitating seamless integration with native vehicle applications. This compatibility ensures that drivers can use CoPilot alongside their vehicle's built-in systems, enhancing the overall driving experience.

Rishi Mehra, sector vice president of commercial mapping and routing technology at Trimble, commented on the update: "We're proud to unveil the new CoPilot – our most robust version yet. This marks a significant milestone in Trimble's commitment to deliver precise navigation and ensure safety on the road. Providing drivers with real-time, truck-compliant route guidance is crucial to moving the essential goods we all rely on. Simply put, CoPilot keeps trucks and freight moving – smoothly, efficiently and predictably."

The new version of Trimble CoPilot will be available via the Google Play store by mid-October 2024. Availability across Trimble's extensive range of fleet telematics partners will also be ongoing, ensuring wide accessibility for users.
