Chirp Network & Streamr partner for decentralised IoT data sharing

Wed, 19th Jun 2024

Chirp Network, a telecommunications Decentralised Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) operating in 33 countries, has announced a new partnership with Streamr, a peer-to-peer network for real-time data sharing. The collaboration will enable data streams from thousands of Internet of Things (IoT) devices to be accessible on the blockchain.

Chirp, which operates its wireless network for IoT and mobile devices on the Sui blockchain, collects extensive data from various sources, including fleet tracking, temperature sensors, and agricultural metrics. The integration of Streamr's technology will allow this data to be transferred in real-time without requiring a centralised server, thereby providing a decentralised platform for these data streams.

By joining Streamr's Hub, Chirp will facilitate sharing data picked up by its connected IoT devices. This will not only provide wider accessibility to diverse data streams but also enable Chirp to monetise this information. Streamr's platform is designed to handle substantial amounts of data efficiently, contributing to a comprehensive global decentralised database.

Henri Pihkala, Co-Founder and CEO of Streamr, emphasised the significance of DePIN projects like Chirp in building a reliable global data infrastructure. "DePIN projects like Chirp stream vast amounts of data every day that can contribute to the creation of a comprehensive and reliable global decentralised database, making real-time data available to all. We see enormous synergies between what we offer at Streamr and Chirp's growing network of IoT and mobile devices as we embark on our partnership," he said.

Tim Kravchunovsky, CEO and Founder of Chirp, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership's potential to expand the utility of their network. "We are thrilled to be integrating with Streamr to bring additional utility to our users. We are building one of the biggest DePIN networks that will eventually connect millions of IoT devices and sensors that gather granular data on anything from weather to neighbourhood security statistics. We are excited to make this data publicly available on the blockchain," he stated.

Looking ahead, Chirp and Streamr plan to explore further integration with Streamr's Data Union Framework. This initiative is anticipated to allow Chirp to establish an incentivisation program, encouraging users to share data from their IoT devices in exchange for rewards. Such a program would potentially enhance user engagement while expanding the available data through the network.

The partnership with Streamr is part of a series of strategic alliances undertaken by Chirp. It comes ahead of several announcements that aim to bolster its leadership in the decentralised telecommunications sector. Both companies are optimistic about the impact of their joint efforts on disseminating and utilising real-time data in a decentralised architecture.
