EE bundles WiFi 7 routers across all Full Fibre plans

Fri, 9th Jan 2026

EE has become the first major UK broadband provider to bundle WiFi 7 routers as standard across all of its Full Fibre plans, as the BT-owned brand seeks to differentiate its home broadband offers and prepare for higher-speed services.

The company will ship its new Smart Hub 7 Plus with every Full Fibre package up to 1Gbps and will introduce a higher-spec Smart Hub 7 Pro for customers taking 1.6Gbps services. EE will also join an Openreach trial of next-generation lines that could deliver download speeds of up to 8.5Gbps.

WiFi 7 is the latest generation of wireless technology and features in recent consumer devices including the PlayStation 5 Pro, flagship smartphones and new laptops and smart TVs. EE said household demand for stable coverage across multiple rooms and devices now outstrips interest in headline speed or headline price.

New research commissioned by the company indicates that 44% of UK adults rate strong WiFi coverage in every room as their top priority when choosing broadband. A third of households report at least one WiFi "dead zone" at home.

"EE is the first major provider in the UK to offer WiFi 7 smart hub technology as standard across all Full Fibre plans. By pairing best-in-class hardware with advanced features like WiFi Intelligence and AI-enabled security, our customers get the most reliable, high-performance connection in every room of their home - whether streaming, working, gaming, or staying connected with family - and that's why more people are choosing EE," said Luciano Oliveira, Director of Product, Home and TV, EE.

New WiFi 7 hardware

The Smart Hub 7 Plus and WiFi Extender 7 Plus are WiFi 7 devices aimed at homes on fibre plans up to 1Gbps. EE said the Smart Hub 7 Plus delivers up to 30% faster WiFi throughput than its previous Smart Hub 6 Plus model. The company said the new hub supports more devices with reduced latency for uses such as streaming and gaming.

Customers on 1.6Gbps plans will receive the Smart Hub 7 Pro and WiFi Extender 7 Pro. EE describes the Pro hub as a tri-band device that maintains speeds over 1Gbps around the home when used with the matching extender.

The hardware allocation is tied to the chosen fibre speed. Plans up to 1Gbps come with Smart Hub 7 Plus as standard, with the WiFi Extender 7 Plus available as an option. The 1.6Gbps tier comes with the Smart Hub 7 Pro and WiFi Extender 7 Pro as part of designated feature bundles.

Network features and security

EE is adding several software-based services across the new portfolio. WiFi Intelligence uses network performance data to adjust settings in the background and keep devices on what the company judges to be the best WiFi connection in the home. The system can make automatic changes such as switching channels on the router or extender.

WiFi Controls, accessed through the My EE app, give customers a way to manage parental controls and device access on the home network. WiFi Optimiser, which is included in some plans, tunes performance based on the type of usage such as gaming, home working or video streaming.

The broadband offers also include a set of security and continuity tools. Advanced Web Protect uses artificial intelligence to block untrustworthy or malicious websites at network level. The Keep Connected Promise, available in some plans, provides a 4G Mini Hub when a fault is reported, which connects to EE's mobile network and reduces down-time.

Cyber Security powered by Norton is bundled with selected packages. It includes social media and dark web monitoring and password management for up to 15 devices. An optional Connectivity Backup add-on can move a household onto EE's mobile network automatically if the fixed connection fails.

Plan structure and pricing

EE has reorganised its Full Fibre plans around a core connection with optional feature bundles. Entry-level fibre speeds start at 74Mbps and rise to 900Mbps on 24‑month contracts, priced between £28.99 and £39.99 per month before feature add-ons.

Customers can choose from four feature tiers. The Core package, at no extra monthly cost, includes the Smart Hub 7 Plus, WiFi Controls, WiFi Intelligence, Advanced Web Protect and a speed guarantee.

The Standard package adds the Keep Connected Promise, Norton Cyber Security and WiFi Optimiser for an extra £4 per month. EE positions this tier for smaller households that want added security and reliability.

The Premium package adds the WiFi Extender 7 Plus for an additional £11 per month on top of the base broadband price. EE targets this bundle at families and larger homes that require more consistent coverage.

The Ultimate tier adds the Smart Hub 7 Pro and WiFi Extender 7 Pro along with in-home support from EE Guides for an extra £20 per month. This support includes home visits and an annual health check on the broadband set-up.

For customers taking the 1.6Gbps service, EE is offering a Premium package at £66.99 per month and an Ultimate package at £75.99 per month. Both include the Smart Hub 7 Pro and WiFi Extender 7 Pro as part of the deal.

Flexible add-ons and trials

Instead of choosing a feature package, customers can take a basic plan and bolt on individual services. Add-ons, most on 30‑day rolling contracts, range from Cyber Security at £6 per month and WiFi Optimiser at £5 per month to a WiFi Extender 7 Plus at £10 per month. A Smart Hub 7 Pro and WiFi Extender 7 Pro bundle costs £15 per month on a 24‑month term. Connectivity Backup is priced at £10 per month.

Households that also use EE for mobile can access EE One, which links fixed broadband and mobile for bill discounts and data boosts on eligible mobile plans. EE said customers could save up to £480 over two years on EE mobile through the scheme.

EE will take part in Openreach's Full Fibre XGSPON pilot that aims to test residential lines with download speeds of up to 8.5Gbps. The company said the results of the pilot will influence wider deployment of future services, with pricing and availability to be announced nearer launch.

"By pairing best-in-class hardware with advanced features like WiFi Intelligence and AI-enabled security, our customers get the most reliable, high-performance connection in every room of their home - whether streaming, working, gaming, or staying connected with family - and that's why more people are choosing EE," said Oliveira.
