Truecaller taps Telna for in-app travel eSIM launch
Thu, 25th Jun 2026 (Today)
Truecaller has chosen Telna to support its new in-app travel eSIM service, now available in more than 30 markets.
The agreement makes Telna the exclusive global connectivity partner for the launch, allowing Truecaller users to buy and activate travel eSIMs in the app instead of using physical SIM cards or standard roaming services.
Truecaller, which says it has more than 500 million active users worldwide, is best known for caller identification, spam blocking, and messaging. Adding travel connectivity broadens the range of services in its app as companies seek new revenue streams from large consumer user bases.
Telna says its platform reaches more than 190 countries through a single integration. According to figures it provided, it distributes more than five million eSIMs a month and carries close to five per cent of global roaming traffic.
Market entry
For Truecaller, the partnership offers a faster way into the travel eSIM sector than building telecoms infrastructure in-house. The branded service launched in a matter of weeks through Telna's existing carrier relationships and network platform, according to Telna.
The travel eSIM market is drawing growing interest as consumers look for alternatives to roaming charges when travelling abroad. Telna cited Kaleido Intelligence forecasts that annual spending on travel eSIM services is expected to exceed USD $10 billion from 2028 onwards.
The new service is available across parts of Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. Truecaller plans to extend availability to additional countries, though the current rollout already covers more than 30 markets.
Platform strategy
The move also fits Truecaller's broader effort to expand beyond its core communications tools. It has been adding services such as business messaging and payments, and travel connectivity gives it another function aimed at increasing engagement among frequent travellers.
Embedded eSIM services have become a growing area of interest for app providers because they can be added without the distribution and logistics required for physical SIM cards. For users, the main appeal is being able to arrange mobile data access before or during a trip through an app they already use.
Gregory Gundelfinger, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Telna, commented on the partnership.
"Truecaller's decision to select Telna as its global connectivity partner reflects the strength of the platform, infrastructure, and API-first approach we have built. When a platform trusted by more than 500 million users chooses Telna to power its travel eSIM offering, it demonstrates the scale and reliability of our connectivity platform.
"Truecaller wanted to bring travel connectivity directly into its app, not embark on a multi-year telecom project. By combining its customer reach and trusted brand with Telna's network infrastructure, carrier relationships, and eSIM platform, we enabled the company to launch a seamless connectivity experience in weeks rather than years."
That approach may appeal to other consumer platforms looking to add connectivity products without becoming network operators themselves. Telna positions itself as an intermediary that lets partners offer mobile access under their own brands while relying on its underlying network arrangements.
Fredrik Kjell, Chief Operating Officer at Truecaller, said the service reflects demand from frequent travellers.
"Our users travel constantly, and staying connected abroad is a natural extension of the services they rely on. By working with Telna, we can offer international connectivity directly inside the app they already trust, giving them a simple and affordable way to stay connected wherever they go.
"As we continue to expand the Truecaller ecosystem, travel connectivity represents another valuable service that enhances the everyday usefulness of the platform while creating new opportunities for long-term growth."
Telna describes itself as a mobile network operator that has built its own multi-network eSIM platform and works directly with mobile networks in more than 200 countries. Truecaller is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm and has built its business around services intended to make communications safer and more predictable in markets where spam and fraud remain common.
The launch gives Truecaller an immediate presence in travel eSIMs through an established supplier while adding another consumer service to an app used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
