Zayo Group launches Waves on Demand for fast fibre network activation
Fri, 29th Mar 2024

Global provider of fibre network infrastructure, Zayo Group, has launched a new and innovative service, Waves on Demand. According to the company, this service enables customers to activate bandwidth across Zayo’s 400G fibre network in Europe within just five working days, a significant improvement on the standard industry lead time of over 30 days.

Zayo's new service was launched in response to recent data gathered in an OMDIA survey. According to survey results, rapid service activation is a key priority for buyers of high-capacity services, yet the process of ordering and turning up Wave routes has been slowing down and becoming less flexible across the industry. Always responsive to customer needs, Zayo's Waves on Demand, powered by Ciena's WaveLogic 5 technology, now enables customers to efficiently scale bandwidth on dedicated, pre-provisioned circuits, offering up to 800G line side capacity.

Michael Katz, VP for Product & Technology at Zayo Europe, explained the motivation behind the move: "At Zayo, we're focused on addressing our customers' needs now and into the future by connecting what's next. We know that turning up Wave capacity can be a long and tedious process, leaving businesses with subpar services that impact their ability to deliver for their customers. Our new Waves on Demand offering will provide our customers with seamless service that is efficient, scalable, and cost-effective, meaning they can react in a matter of days to their business and customers' needs."

This rapid implementation model has initially been deployed across major European hubs such as Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Marseille, Bordeaux, and Dusseldorf. In addition, Zayo's metro network capability can extend this service to key access locations across Western Europe. By the end of the year, it is anticipated that Zayo will further expand its capacity towards Dublin, Manchester, and Milan.

Zayo's strategic partner, Ciena, also commented on this service innovation. Will Rhodes, Director EMEA Carrier Managed Service Partners at Ciena, said: "The industry is crying out for faster turn-up of services. Getting high-capacity connectivity in several days will help to improve Zayo's wholesale and enterprise customers' agility and efficiency. This step-change will align better with end-user needs and digital experience."

Customers can now request the Waves on Demand service by directly contacting Zayo in Europe, and take advantage of service delivery in just a few working days, the company states.

Zayo states the company is focused on its future-ready network that spans more than 17 million fibre miles and 142,000 route miles. The company's tailored connectivity and edge solutions are designed to enable carriers, cloud providers, data centres, schools, and enterprises to deliver exceptional experiences, from core to cloud to edge.
